Volunteers

Harris County Emergency Services District #1 utilizes Texas certified EMS personnel to staff Mobile Intensive Care Units as they provide "911" emergency services to those in need. Harris County utilizes its volunteer staff to complement our paid staff and find that the two combined makes for a potent EMS medical team.

Anyone who possesses a current Texas Department of Heath EMS Certification may apply for Medical Volunteer membership. Once you become a member we ask that you contribute by volunteering at least 2 twelve hour shifts per month. Harris County Emergency Services District will provide no cost continuing education training to keep your certification current.

Harris County Emergency Services District #1 is dedicated to providing our volunteer staff whom make a difference in our organization, a comfortable and enjoyable learning experience. Harris County ESD 1 strives to maintain their volunteer staff with the best equipment, aggressive treatment therapies, most current protocols, and the opportunity to practice and advance skills in a supportive, rewarding, and challenging enviroment. Our In-Charge Medics are eager to help you achieve your personal goals and look forward to you becoming a part of our medical team.

Upon successful completion of the probationary period of the program, HCESD #1 provides each new member with a "duty uniform" shirt and pants, and will issue an identification badge for you to wear while on duty.

HCESD #1 believes in maintaining a healthy enviroment and is supportive of preventative medical care for its staff members. With this belief, Harris County ESD #1 has made available to its staff Hepatitis B Vaccination, annual tuberculosis testing, and flu vaccines (contingent on availability) at no cost to the members.
