The volunteer program has always been in existence at Harris County ESD-1, but has never been given the attention that it deserved...until now. Currently there are 25 volunteers that ride on a regular basis. These volunteers can be found riding as third members on any given shift. Volunteers also attended special events, representing Harris County ESD-1. Ambulances are always a special attraction at local school functions. Most recently, Harris County ESD-1 was contacted by Channel 2 News, and requested an ambulance to be on stand-by for an event benefiting the Houston Humane Society. Harris County ESD-1 volunteer program also currently supports a work-study program through Baylor College of Medicine, and University of Texas School of Medicine which allows future physicians to ride along with our medics.

On March 23, 2002 the Aldine Optimist Club sponsored and held the "Special Olympics" at Aldine Stadium. Here are a few pictures of the event. A special thank you to Aldine Optimist Club for a successful community event and allowing HCESD-1 to be a part of it.
